Exxon™ chlorobutyl rubber
Exxon chlorobutyl rubber is an isobutylene-isoprene copolymer derived from reacting butyl rubber with chlorine in a continuous process. It is structurally similar to Exxon bromobutyl rubber and produced through the same halogenation process. Our chlorobutyl grade slate offers a range of polymer viscosities and cure responses, through adjustments in functionality and additives content. Compared with regular butyl rubber, Exxon chlorobutyl rubber provides an improved compression set and better resistance to heat, ozone and flex fatigue.

  • Low permeability to air, gases and moisture
  • Vibration damping
  • Low glass transition temperature, similar to regular buty
  • Wide vulcanization versatility
  • Fast cure rates
  • Processing safety: no nitrosamines or nitrosamines precursors- Good adhesion and compatibility to other rubbers
